If LLMs become the universal interface, who indexes the MCP services?
ThomasBuildLab · reddit · 2026-10-23
A developer argues that when general-purpose LLMs become the primary user interface, apps degrade into executable services behind them — and businesses may stop building dedicated mobile apps, exposing capabilities directly to models instead.
The unresolved core problem: how does an LLM discover an MCP service neither the user nor the model knows exists? Today MCP integrations still require manual configuration, preconnected tools, or directory lookup.
Three open questions: could MCP discovery become the next Google Search, indexing executable capabilities instead of pages? How will LLMs evaluate and select competing services by intent? And can an MCP-first startup acquire customers organically without an app?
