Open-source Token Harness dashboard cuts Claude Code/Codex token spend by trimming output and routing to cheaper models
dima6312 · reddit · 2026-10-23
A developer released Token Harness, an open-source desktop app for Claude Code and Codex that targets two sources of wasted allowance: verbose test/build output and repeated context.
- RTK & HarnessTrim shorten noisy command output before the agent reads it
- Model routing sends bounded, simple tasks to cheaper models while the main model reviews results
- Local dashboard tracks allowance signals, keeping token reductions, subscription allowance, and billed API costs separate; API savings only reported when verified against billing data
- Runs locally, no account or API key, never sends prompts, source code, or credentials upstream; config changes are previewed before applying
The author's dashboard shows 5.48M input tokens saved in 30 days ($27-49 at API prices), 40.52M tokens of work handled by cheaper models, and 62.9% average output reduction on shortened commands. Repo and feedback welcome on GitHub.
