Token Harness: Open-Source Local Dashboard to Cut Claude Code and Codex Token Spend
giuliastro · reddit · 2026-10-23
A developer open-sourced Token Harness, a local desktop app for Claude Code and Codex that targets two sources of waste: verbose test/build output and repeated context.
- RTK & HarnessTrim reduce noisy command output
- Model-routing guidance sends bounded, simpler tasks to lower-cost models while the main model reviews results
- Local dashboard tracks token reductions, subscription allowance estimates, and billed API costs separately; API savings are only reported when verified against provider billing data
It runs fully locally, needs no account or API key, never sends prompts/source code/credentials to a server, and previews setup changes before applying them. For heavy users it can meaningfully extend a fixed subscription allowance. The author welcomes feedback on measuring reductions across harnesses and providers.
