Next-Concept Modeling paper claims 31x faster text generation than diffusion LLM baselines

A Reddit post highlights a new paper (arXiv:2610.14162) proposing Next-Concept Modeling (NCM). Instead of next-token prediction, NCM learns a hierarchy of discrete codes (via VQ-VAE): it generates the coarse level first, then predicts finer-level codes in parallel, with a decoder converting representations to text.
The authors report up to 31x faster generation versus diffusion language model baselines on specific benchmarks. The poster is still studying the architecture, especially the VQ-VAE component, and asks whether others have explored the approach.
