Claude Code's Context Panel Breaks Down Usage in Detail, Codex Users Jealous
JeremyNguyenPhD · x · 2026-10-23
Claude Code's new Context panel offers a clear view of context window usage: in a screenshot, only 10% of the 1M context is used, with a per-item breakdown across Messages (3.7%), MCP tools (1.7%), System tools, System prompt, Skills, Memory files, and the Autocompact buffer, and it also distinguishes deferred MCP/System tools. The author considers this transparency design excellent and calls on OpenAI to bring the same feature to Codex.
