a16z announced that a16z Crypto is becoming a16z Frontier, expanding Chris Dixon's mandate beyond crypto to back "outer planet" founders building new markets — extending themes behind bets like Oculus, Skydio, Zipline, Coinbase, Solana, and Uniswap.
In the accompanying podcast, Marc Andreessen invoked Douglas Adams' generational framework for technology adoption:
- Under 15: tech is just how the world works — his 7-year-old reacted to ChatGPT answering questions with a "duh";
- 15–35: it's an exciting new field you can build a career on;
- Over 35: it's "unholy and evil."
His message: for 18-year-olds, it's "prime time" to grab AI and run with it.
