Investor Matt Slotnick lays out three startup theses, led by an app server for agent apps
matt_slotnick · x · 2026-10-23
Investor Matt Slotnick published a personal "request for startups" listing themes he'd invest in or help build:
- An app server for agent apps: every agent vendor rebuilds the same stack (auth, integrations, etc.), forcing buyers to manage dozens of vendor relationships. Someone should build a unified AI app server where agent apps deploy as configurations — ideally a lab, since it would commoditize the app layer and let them compete on runtime and inference infrastructure.
- A community-driven open apps ecosystem: as code costs approach zero, people will write purpose-built apps with heavy functional overlap — an opportunity for a templated, modular open-source ecosystem with an infrastructure/hosting platform around it.
- An agent memory provider: cheap, fast, scalable memory for long-running agents, going deep on memory semantics like supersession, decay, provenance, conflict detection, and compaction.
