Hugging Face releases Carbon-X, an open DNA model built on Qwen3-14B
huggingface · x · 2026-10-22
Hugging Face's Clement Delangue argues frontier labs' shallow guardrails on biology AI create dangerous asymmetry, blocking scientists while bad actors bypass them. Alongside, HF released Carbon-X, an open DNA model: Qwen3-14B midtrained on 300B tokens of DNA/English interleaved data, with a hybrid BPE (English) + 6-mer (DNA) tokenizer. It beats all evaluated open models on five DNA benchmarks (avg 66.7%, +16 pts) and leads all models — open or closed — on BioReason Coding (74.9) and NextBase (39.4).
