How a diplomat, a teen and a retired teacher built Cohere's CulturalRiddles
cohere · x · 2026-10-22
In a project retrospective, Cohere explains that CulturalRiddles began with Hungarian diplomat Boczka Károly's idea, then grew to include collaborators like high schooler Henry Gagnier and retired math teacher Jane Smith. Contributors wrote original riddles about their own cultures in their own languages, producing a 6,200-riddle dataset spanning 45 countries. The team says open science brought people together as much as it taught the models.
