DeepMind researcher reveals perpetual non-compete clause added after 2023 DM-Brain merger
vkrakovna · x · 2026-10-22
Google DeepMind researcher Victoria Krakovna shared the specific clause in her contract: for 12 months after termination, she must not do or say anything likely to lead any person or company to withdraw from or cease offering Google, the Parent, or any Group Company any rights of purchase, sale, import, distribution or agency. In an earlier reply she noted the clause didn't exist in her 2016 contract, was introduced around the DM-Brain merger in early 2023 — so "old timers" aren't subject to it — and rumors suggest it's being removed from new contracts.
