General Motors says it will use AI to halve vehicle design cycles to as little as two years, seeking to keep pace with Chinese automakers like BYD, Geely, and Xiaomi that roll out new models rapidly.
- Chief product officer Sterling Anderson: "The faster we can iterate, the better our products become... better products faster at lower costs."
- GM also plans to drastically cut EV battery costs, overhaul in-car computer systems, and bring "eyes-off" driving to its cars within two years.
- Chinese cars remain effectively banned in the US by tariffs, but inexpensive Chinese vehicles are gaining share across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
