Carbon-X, billed as the best open DNA model, is now available. Built by midtraining a 14B model on DNA and text in collaboration with Hugging Face, it can explain what a sequence does, predict mutation effects, and generate new DNA. The team claims it beats every open language model and matches GPT-6.1 Sol at roughly 1,000x lower cost, with full open-source release.
