Running two Claude Code instances side by side: sessions that read each other's screens and split work
levoniust · reddit · 2026-10-22
A Reddit user shared screenshots of running two Claude Code instances at once: one on Opus 5.5, another on Qwen flash Q8 (plus a Qwen 27B Q4 helper on another machine).
The interesting part, visible in the screenshots: in a tmux split, the local Claude session reads the other session's screen to see what it's working on, reviews its plan and progress, offers to pick up remaining work to avoid file conflicts, and gets automatically pinged via a Unix socket registration when the other session goes idle — while a cloud Claude session dispatches tasks to the local one. One project ran across both sessions for 12+ hours straight.
He admits Opus 5.5 is far faster and smarter than local Qwen, but loves the setup anyway: "the things I get to wish into existence is magical."
