OpenRouter data: GPT-6 Luna takes 54% of tokens but only 6% of OpenAI spend
maferase · reddit · 2026-10-22
A Tidelines.ai chart based on OpenRouter rankings (as of 2026-10-19) maps each OpenAI model's token share against its share of estimated spend:
- GPT-6 Luna takes 54% of tokens but only 6% of estimated spend — the high-volume, cheap workhorse.
- GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol dominate spending at 44% and 39% of estimated spend despite token shares of only 4% and 17%.
- GPT-5.6 Luna, GPT-6 Sol, gpt-oss-120b and GPT-6 Luna Pro hold minor shares.
The takeaway: token volume and dollar burn come from different models — cheap ones absorb everyday load while expensive ones capture most of the budget.
