Nokia, T-Mobile and NVIDIA complete first AI-RAN call on a live commercial network

On Oct 21, Nokia, T-Mobile and NVIDIA completed a call on a live T-Mobile commercial site in Bellevue, WA — the first software-defined RAN call using accelerated computing on a production network, per Nokia CTO Pallavi Mahajan. The site paired a Nokia Massive MIMO radio and anyRAN software with servers on NVIDIA's Aerial RAN Computer (ARC). Nokia claims a 2x spectral-efficiency path and 20 operators on anyRAN+ARC, while rival Ericsson runs AI on silicon already in the field claiming 10-20% gains. Key open question: who funds site-level GPUs and whether external workloads justify the cost.
