Nokia, T-Mobile and NVIDIA complete first AI-RAN call on a live commercial cell site

On October 21, 2026, Nokia, T-Mobile and NVIDIA completed a call on a live T-Mobile commercial site in Bellevue, WA: a Nokia Massive MIMO radio running anyRAN software on NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer (ARC) servers, connected to a commercial 5G core with ordinary phones. Nokia calls it the first software-defined RAN call using accelerated computing on a live network and claims a path to 2x spectral efficiency; Ericsson says its AI software delivers 10-20% efficiency and throughput gains on silicon already deployed. About 20 operators are on anyRAN + ARC, but who funds site-level GPUs — and whether external workloads cover the cost — remains open.
