Dystopia narratives get the audience wrong: the rich entertain each other, not watch the poor

A thread arguing dystopia fiction (Hunger Games, Black Mirror) wrongly assumes the rich are the audience for 'Watch The Poor Suffer' shows—the slightly-less-poor are the real market, since the rich prefer to entertain each other. One reply inverts it: in a post-scarcity AI future, the poor live outside the tubes on infinite slop while the tubes are an achievement-maxxing theme park for bored rich people, with The Long Walk getting this right.
