AI game platforms are subsidizing their own irrelevance, dev argues
jaivinwylde · x · 2026-10-21
Developer daytonmills argues there won't be another "platform" for AI-created games:
- Claude can port a game to a different framework in 5 minutes; AI-generated browser games are abundant and infinitely cloneable — inherently platformless
- "AI game creator platforms" spending millions subsidizing creators to build on their SDKs are effectively paying people to make open-source software that can be embedded, exported or cloned anywhere
- The real trap for browser games is retention: no re-engagement trigger like an app. Roblox survives weak D1 retention through sheer game abundance and being the discovery layer; standalone browser games have no such moat
- "Just make a fun game" is a mirage — Roblox is full of fun games with industry-worst D1 retention
