AWS, Microsoft and IBM co-present MCP over AMQP for async AI agent communication

At MQ Summit 2026 in Haarlem, Stefan Moser (Principal Engineer, AWS), Clemens Vasters (Principal Architect, Microsoft) and Matt Leming (Chief Architect, IBM MQ) shared a stage to present "Powering asynchronous AI agent communication with MCP over AMQP." Their thesis: agent-to-agent communication is a messaging problem first, and the mature AMQP protocol can serve as the async transport layer for MCP — a rare joint appearance by three competing vendors.
