Anthropic built Scion, a VCS just for coding agents — now open-source gitai replicates the design
JafarNajafov · x · 2026-10-21
Anthropic's internal Scion system (detailed in "Redesigning source control") rethinks version control for agents: humans clone and push once, but agents fire thousands of short-lived tasks on the same branch, making full clones and merge queues the bottleneck. The open-source gitai replicates the server-centric design — clients fetch only what they need, history queries are answered and cached server-side, and changes land via compare-and-swap with concurrent lands batched into a single commit.
