Rule-based Self-Layout system renders a full Mos Eisley 3D map with 5,367 sensibly placed objects
jasonkneen · x · 2026-10-21
Developer Jason Kneen unveiled a new map renderer for Star Wars' Mos Eisley, built on "real" and interpolated maps plus a Self-Layout system where every object enforces rules about where it can be placed, near what, and with what.
The result: no placement clashes, and ancillary buildings land in sensible spots — like market stalls near landing pads for visitors. Screenshots show 5,367 mapped objects, 14 landing bays, and a searchable 3D city atlas with explorable landmarks such as Docking Bay 93, with some artistic license taken on the Palace.
