Data from the State of AI 2026 report shows NVIDIA participated in 84 AI funding rounds this year, roughly double its 2024 total.
The accompanying chart details $234bn invested across 159 companies — including OpenAI ($122bn), Anthropic ($30bn) and xAI ($20bn) — while NVIDIA's open-source models have racked up 46M downloads across 600 releases.
The author argues these investments, acquisitions, open model releases and hardware optimizations entrench NVIDIA across the entire AI stack: competing with NVIDIA increasingly means competing with the ecosystem it built.
