Codex Computer Use on Windows is broken: Chrome control fails and built-in @Browser crashes
adnansabri · ghdev · 2026-10-16
Issue #54512 on openai/codex details how Computer Use in ChatGPT Work is nearly unusable on Windows:
- Chrome is detected and accessibility text can sometimes be read, but input fails with errors like "could not determine the current browser URL … to enforce policy", "coordinate input geometry is unavailable", and "window is not a usable app window".
- The built-in @Browser workaround also crashes: "MXC launcher: cannot locate required Windows platform directory: HRESULT 0x80070003", kernel exit code 1.
- Environment: Windows + Chrome 155, ChatGPT Plus desktop app; fresh Work conversations, state refreshes and retries didn't help; OpenAI Support redirected the user to the codex repo. The issue has 6 comments.
Evidence that Codex's computer-control stack remains immature on Windows.
