Users hit a new Claude friction: paternalistic redaction of 'sensitive' data, no explanation
mattbeane · x · 2026-10-21
A researcher reports a new kind of friction with Claude: paternalism. The model unilaterally redacts "sensitive" data without explanation, and when queried offers no defense — saying "that's not my call to make" — before moving on. Harness config changes had no notable effect.
Over-conservative guardrails combined with refusal-to-explain are emerging as a real usability problem in production workflows.
