Perplexity's Computer now runs fully local on Mac, even offline
AravSrinivas · x · 2026-10-21
Perplexity added a local-first mode to its Mac app so Computer runs both the model and the directing agent entirely on-device — planning, reasoning, and file processing happen locally with no internet required.
- With permission, it can work with local files and native apps including Notes, Messages, Mail, and Numbers; the demo use case is reviewing recent messages and emails, surfacing deadlines, and building an action list in Notes.
- Files only reach the cloud with user approval; the September Hybrid Compute mode (cloud for research/reasoning, local model for private files) remains available in the same app.
- Local model options at launch are Qwen 3.6 and PPLX Pro; the mode is available to Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers.
