AI Accounting Agents Hit 81% Accuracy Yet Fail QuickBooks Month-End Close

The author's team compiled an open benchmark of QuickBooks month-end close checks (bank cutoffs, bill matching, customer deposits, prior-bookkeeper cleanup) from anonymized client files. Even with the close checklist in the prompt, the best model topped out at 81% accuracy, failing on one structural blind spot: agents that only read the QuickBooks feed book upfront customer deposits as earned income because dispatch milestones live in external systems like ServiceTitan, distorting P&L across months. Re-categorizing manually cleaned bank lines also doubled costs. The only fix that worked: a hard SQL and subledger check in front of ledger writes, parking deposits without completed dispatch milestones in unearned customer deposits.
