Blind horror game ECHO: 15k lines written by GPT & Claude, free in browser
Possible_Statement84 · reddit · 2026-10-20
A non-programmer describes what he wants and iterates while GPT and Claude (as coding agents) write all the code — ECHO is a blind-perspective horror game (15k lines of JS on three.js) where sound reveals walls but also guides a sound-hunting monster. Free in browser, open source.
The wildest part is the trailer, made by Claude Code in one session:
- A headless "director" freezes the game clock and steps it 1/60s at a time with scripted shots; all 16 shots rendered in 3 minutes on a MacBook GPU, no screen recording
- Audio logged per sample (file, distance, angle, occlusion) and remixed offline; music built purely from game SFX
- Python motion graphics: monster-tracking target box via logged screen positions run through the game's own lens distortion formula
- 156 voice takes from local Qwen3-TTS, screened by Whisper + pitch analysis to keep one "actor", best take picked for each of 26 lines
- It even caught and fixed a real bug (logo clipping to "ECHC" at 1080p)
The idea, direction and taste calls were human; SFX/textures are credited CC assets.
