AI answers cite blog content 73% of the time: analysis of 1,329 citations across 4 assistants

Outrank's free AI citation analyzer asked ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude 48 benchmark questions and classified 1,329 cited sources: blog content (listicles 32%, articles & guides 29%, comparisons 12%) accounts for 73% of all citations. By assistant, Claude cites blog content 93% of the time, Perplexity 84%, Gemini 71%, but ChatGPT only 18%. Blog content also dominates "Best X" (76%), "X vs Y" (79%) and how-to (66%) questions. Takeaway: quality blogging remains the dominant source AI engines cite, making GEO investment worthwhile.
