One prompt + 5 minutes: Claude Code reverse-engineers a smart TV, kills ads and side-loads apps
LinusEkenstam · x · 2026-10-20
A user showed how Claude Code reverse-engineered his smart TV: one prompt, a photo of the TV, and 5 minutes to unlock the hidden developer menu, remove ad rows and bloatware, roughly double UI speed, and install any open-source app straight from GitHub — all reversible. Steps: put computer and TV on the same Wi-Fi, feed the prompt plus TV photo into Claude Code, follow remote-control instructions to unlock the developer menu, authorize on the TV, then let the agent clean up and side-load apps. Linus Ekenstam adds you can use an off-the-shelf REA (reverse engineer anything) agent as long as devices share a network, and suggests designing custom TV interfaces with Rive, Paper or Figma.
