Anil Seth and colleagues argue in Nature why AI is extremely unlikely to be conscious

Neuroscientist Anil Seth, along with consciousness researcher Giulio Tononi and philosopher Ned Block, published a joint opinion piece in Nature laying out three reasons why AI is extremely unlikely to be conscious — and why this matters.
Their core argument: while LLMs can mimic thought and feeling with uncanny skill, intelligence alone is not enough for subjective experience. The authors contend that current fears about AI consciousness lack scientific grounding and should be assessed through our understanding of consciousness itself.
