Open-source JEV-gated adaptive thinking makes LLMs reason only when unsure
dimknaf · reddit · 2026-10-20
A Reddit user open-sourced an adaptive-thinking scheme for LLMs based on JEV-style gating: per-token entropy is measured, and when the model is unsure, a gate asks whether to trigger a thinking block. An opening thought always runs, extra thinking blocks are added on demand, and each block explores a tree of parallel conversations with JEV logic picking the best line. The repo ships a tunable UI (entropy floor, gate threshold, 4×5 beams) tested on a quantized Qwen3-8B, and is especially interesting for local setups that can run multiple decode streams.
