Open-source Android app lets Codex control your phone, with approval cards for sends and purchases

A Reddit developer open-sourced Buddy, an Android floating chat bubble powered by Codex that can read the screen and tap/type across your apps. Demos include turning on living room lights and having OpenCode on a free model add a Switch 2 to an Amazon cart.
- What it does: replying to messages, filling forms, digging through settings, and notification rules that draft replies when a chat arrives.
- How it works: Codex CLI runs in a small Linux environment inside the app (no root, no Termux); the phone is exposed as MCP tools via Android's accessibility service. Signs in with your ChatGPT plan; Claude Code and OpenCode also work.
- Safety focus: anything that sends, posts or buys shows an approval card first, scoped to that exact message; unapproved notification replies wait in a queue.
