esp32sim-mcp: MCP server lets AI agents build and test ESP32 firmware in a local emulator
EmanueleStrazzullo · reddit · 2026-10-20
The author open-sourced esp32sim-mcp (MIT), an MCP server wrapping a local ESP32/S3/C3/C6 emulator so AI agents can test their own firmware. It exposes six tools: simrun (boot firmware, return console logs/panics), simexpect (string/regex assertions on console output), simscript (emulated buttons, GPIO, UART, encoder, touch), simscreenshot, plus board listing and diagnostics — enabling a full build → simulate → fix loop.
Useful design notes for MCP server authors: the emulator interleaves two consoles mid-line, so the server demuxes by tag and dedupes mirrored lines; tool results are agent-shaped (pass/fail first, then the exact missing pattern, then logs); a bundled skill teaches the whole workflow including Docker builds. Published to the official MCP registry via GitHub OIDC and as a Claude Code plugin; installable with one npx command.
