Google confirms ads coming to AI Mode with Personal Intelligence, reversing ad-free promise

Barry Schwartz reports that Google confirmed it is starting to test ads in AI Mode for users who connect their apps through Personal Intelligence. In March, Google explicitly said AI Mode with Personal Intelligence enabled would be ad-free — that promise is now reversed. Google had foreshadowed this, saying ads would eventually operate similarly and stay relevant to the query, response context, and user interests. A notable signal for search marketers as AI search monetization expands.
