Drop gzip level from 6 to 1 for small responses: +5-12% perf at near-same size
lucasmeijer · x · 2026-10-20
Lucas Meijer shares a server-side optimization tip: use gzip level 1 instead of the default 6 for small responses — nearly identical compressed size at a fraction of the CPU cost, yielding a 5-12% speedup on message posting. He also notes each request reads one SQLite snapshot with the page cache keyed to that snapshot, an idea borrowed from a C rewrite.
