Makoto brings SLSA-style provenance to data supply chains, with CI gates that catch mutated data
aronchick · x · 2026-10-19
Ahead of his All Things Open talk on data supply chains, aronchick introduces Makoto, a source-first provenance framework inspired by SLSA but built for data.
- How it works: Makoto keeps a verifiable history beside the bytes as data moves across systems, teams, and organizations—recording where data began, what changed, and who attested to it.
- Receiver-side CI gate: A GitHub Actions gate step with needs: gate ensures nothing loads until Makoto verifies the exact bytes that arrived.
- Checks: strict parsing, schema validation, signatures, authorization thresholds, graph dependency integrity, freshness anchors, and more; a demo shows the artifact-bytes check catching a mutated data bundle.
A practical engineering approach to trustworthy AI training data pipelines.
