IndyDevDan Shows a Durable News Agent That Filters Hype, Facts, and Signal with a Dirt-Cheap Classifier
IndyDevDan · youtube · 2026-10-19
IndyDevDan's new video demonstrates a durable news agent built on Pi Durable and the open-source pi agent harness. Instead of a chat window, it runs as a cron agent every minute on an M4 Mac mini and an exe.dev sandbox, autonomously gathering, filtering, ranking, and curating engineering news.
Key points:
- In/Near/Out Loop: your agentic skill is measured by how many autonomous threads run around the clock; proactive agents bridge in-loop prompting and full out-of-loop autonomy.
- Hype vs. Facts vs. Signal: hype is unfounded excitement, facts are true but not always actionable (e.g. a massive math proof dump), signal is high-leverage info you can act on now (e.g. a new SOTA rollout).
- Jev pipeline: a sub-half-second, dirt-cheap classifier gates irrelevant stories, dedupes, cross-verifies claims, and scores items at every stage, keeping token costs razor thin for minute-by-minute cron sweeps.
- Detached client architecture: the agent lives behind a SQLite-backed server API; browser generative UI and terminal TUI are thin, real-time synced clients.
Code is open-sourced at disler/pi-durable-news-agent.
