Dev tests MCP servers in Claude Code and Cursor — Chroma and others crash on startup
Prior-Enthusiasm-410 · reddit · 2026-10-19
An indie developer ran identical small tasks across Claude Code, Cursor (plus some in Claude Desktop and Codex), publishing pass/partial/fail results on his ToolPassed site. Key findings:
- Fail to start: Chroma MCP, the archived reference SQLite server (uvx commands crash on current deps), Paper Search MCP, and MCP Python Interpreter all failed in both clients (tested Oct 15).
- Working: Qdrant MCP passed store-and-search from a local folder with no server or account; MCP SQLite (jparkerweb) also passed. arXiv MCP found 1706.03762 in 2 calls in both clients.
- GitHub tools: github-repo-mcp read a public repo README with no token in 2 calls, DeepWiki took 3, GitMCP 8; the official GitHub server (token required) went untested. n8n-mcp found the Slack node with no instance or key.
Results are one run per client and provisional; many account-dependent listings remain untested.
