CLI-Anything hits 54.9k GitHub stars by auto-generating CLIs to make all software agent-native
bibryam · x · 2026-10-19
HKUDS' open-source CLI-Anything project (54.9k GitHub stars) turns GUI-first applications into tools that AI agents can call directly.
How it works
- A coding agent analyzes an app's source code, maps its capabilities, and generates a CLI
- The generated CLI bypasses the GUI, calling the app's existing backend, APIs, or native file formats
- Pipeline: analyze codebase → map capabilities → generate Python CLI (commands, JSON output, --help, tests) → validate with real-workflow tests
The repo ships agent-harnesses for Blender, QGIS, Audacity, Calibre, browsers and more, aiming to make all software agent-native with plug-and-play support for Claude, GPT and other coding agents.
