Claude Code bug: /effort wrongly warns of cache miss on Opus 5.5 subscriptions
sebthom · ghdev · 2026-10-17
A bug report (issue #102843) on anthropics/claude-code shows that with a Claude Max subscription on Opus 5.5 (v2.1.301, Windows), running /effort pops a confirmation dialog warning that switching to high will re-read the full history, slow responses, and burn more tokens.
The official prompt caching docs state that on Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, Haiku 5.5, and Fable 5.1 — with either an API key or a Claude subscription — changing effort keeps the cache and applies silently. The author's transcripts back the docs: every effort change within the cache TTL read full context from cache.
