Codex Dots bug: cloud browser falsely reports "preview limit" with next-month retry date
noob000001 · ghdev · 2026-10-15
A user filed openai/codex issue #54306 reporting flaky execution in ChatGPT Dots' cloud Chromium browser:
- Browser actions repeatedly failed with approval-related errors ("permission request was dismissed", "approval request was cancelled") even though the user never canceled them.
- After reopening the cloud browser, reads succeeded briefly, then a subsequent action returned "You've hit the preview limit. Try again at Nov 14th, 2026 2:10 PM" — a month ahead of the actual date (Oct 15), with no timezone given.
- At 23:23 a page read in the same browser succeeded again while a disconnected-network banner remained, so full recovery is unconfirmed.
The reporter asks OpenAI to clarify which allowance "preview limit" refers to, why the retry date was wrong, and why approval failures may be logged as user cancellations. Impacted work included browser checks, backup verification and site updates.
