Pi Durable Explained: Build Crash-Resilient Always-On Agents with Local Models
Hugging Face · youtube · 2026-10-19
What Pi Durable is: not a new coding-agent CLI, but a building block for always-on agent applications, focused on recovery after interruptions.
Covered in the video:
- Crash recovery: checkpoints, conversations, and storage let an agent resume from SQLite after being interrupted
- Harness architecture: how harness vs. application split works in the Pi ecosystem, plus six steps to initialize a harness
- Local-model demo: running Qwen3.5-0.8B via llama.cpp (GGUF weights), with one script starting fresh and another resuming interrupted work from SQLite
Caveats: APIs are experimental and may change; tool replay safety and restarting the host process remain the application's responsibility.
Companion code is open-sourced (alejandro-ao/pi-durable-demo); Pi source at earendil-works/pi.
