Developer Turns Hand Implant Into an SSH Key for Cyborg-Style Logins
TechPreacher · x · 2026-10-19
Sascha Corti turned his implanted VivoKey Apex Flex chip into an SSH key: touch the NFC reader, enter the PIN, and you get a shell — the private key never leaves the chip. GnuPG's gpg-agent acts as the SSH agent, scdaemon talks to the implant over macOS PC/SC via an ACR1252 reader, and the OpenPGP authentication subkey (one of three RSA 2048 subkeys on the SmartPGP applet) signs the challenge; the server only sees a normal ssh-rsa public key. The post includes the full reproducible setup: card verification, scdaemon.conf's disable-ccid and reader-port settings, and pinentry-mac configuration.
