Schmidhuber to Give Free Public Lecture on AI's Past and Far Future at Kyoto University

Kyoto University's CIAIER center announced that Juergen Schmidhuber, co-credited as a father of modern AI and inventor of LSTM/CTC, will give a free public lecture on Nov 5, 2026 (13:30-15:00), titled "Past, Present, Future, and Far Future of Artificial Intelligence", co-organized with Sakana AI. The talk retraces modern AI from its 1990s origins through generative AI, then covers AI's spread from screens into robots and factories — predicting blue-collar physical-world workers will gain a temporary advantage over white-collar screen workers — and out to a far-future "machine civilization". No registration required; hardmaru (Sakana AI CEO) amplified the announcement.
