DecisionAct: open-source Python agent framework using decision models over LLM replies
AgitatedReveal07 · reddit · 2026-10-19
A developer has released DecisionAct, an open-source Python framework premised on a simple idea: not every agent needs an LLM to generate every response. For workflows with predefined actions and outcomes, decision models can interpret natural-language requests faster and cheaper.
- Developers define intents, tools, and allowed outcomes; decision models pick tool calls and select an outcome
- Python functions execute actions; predefined templates produce final responses
- Supports multiple tool calls, type safety, conversation memory, checkpointing, middleware, and human approval
- Ships with order-support and flight-desk examples
Early release, installable via pip install decisionact; feedback welcome on where it beats or falls short of traditional LLM agents.
