Reasoning latency is embodied competence: real world doesn't pause for robots
ccloy · x · 2026-10-19
Part 2 of the GPT-6-Astra thread: on physical robots, retries cost time, cause wear, and can be irreversible. In a prototype household benchmark the world keeps running during inference—an agent may correctly decide to turn off the stove yet act too late to save the egg. The authors argue reasoning latency is part of embodied competence and evaluations should test whether agents verify outcomes, preserve progress, and act before observations go stale.
