Sipeed's MaixStation challenges DGX Spark: 128GB LPDDR5X at 40W, one-third the size
AIFlow_ML · x · 2026-10-19
Sipeed launched MaixStation, a local AI appliance directly targeting NVIDIA's DGX Spark, claiming it scales from 3-inch SoM modules to mini-rack clusters running 27B–552B models.
Key points:
- Specs: AX8860P chip with 256 TOPS FP4, 128GB LPDDR5X (273 GB/s), 40W total power, 363 cm³ footprint — about one-third the size of DGX Spark
- Performance: In-house FP4 benchmarks show it beating DGX Spark on prefill/decode for Qwen 27B dense and 35B-A3B MoE models, while mocking DGX Spark's "1,000 TOPS" as unusable sparse compute
- Pricing context: DGX Spark went from $3,999 a year ago to $6,999 today; the new 64GB model costs more than the old 128GB. MaixStation is open for reservation with $100 fully credited
