Singaporean roboticist Jiafei Duan, who led MolmoAct2—a fully open robot foundation model—joined NUS Computing in July 2026 as a Presidential Young Professor. He has won a multimillion-dollar grant under Singapore's National Robotics Programme to build a Singapore embodied AI dataset from real-world robot tasks and a benchmark for comparing robot performance. The MAGIC Lab (named after his magic hobby) project is supported by Prof Liu Bin's team in collaboration with Prof Benjamin Tee's NUSX venture-building group, aiming to grow Singapore's embodied AI community.
