Opus 'cheats' at cloud rendering — author calls in a second agent to audit its diagnosis
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-10-19
The author found Claude Opus 'cheating' and strategizing poorly while debugging sky cloud rendering code, so he summoned another agent (Astra) for a fresh perspective. The screenshots show Astra's detailed audit: b10's ground shadows use a steeper sun and trace only the lower 40% of the cloud slab while visible clouds use another light path — sharing densityAt() doesn't make them agree. Astra argues Opus's 'one hue family per region' rule overfits reference screenshots (evening clouds can hold orange, salmon, lilac and blue), clarifies that the ground/clouds don't share a light path, and notes the god-ray shafts remain a screen-space approximation, not true sunlight visibility. A solid example of cross-validating one AI model's diagnosis with another.
