Dev builds open-source CAD app FundaCAD with a Claude multi-agent coding workflow
XapuRs · reddit · 2026-10-19
A Reddit user, inspired by Shapr3D and FreeCAD, built FundaCAD — a free, open-source, locally-run CAD application — using Claude in VSCode via an agentic loop.
- Workflow: the author files verified bug reports; cheap agents confirm bugs via the MCP server, Opus agents write fixes, and Sonnet reviews and confirms — the author also periodically does manual "monkey testing."
- Features: Blender-style face/edge selection (sketch directly on a selected face), a plugin system, an MCP server so AI can help model or explain modeling steps, plus stress testing and a WIP path-tracer renderer.
- Positioning: includes full commercial rights and is pitched as a decent local replacement for Onshape. Repo: github.com/Paraxdev/FundaCAD
